Pitney Bowes and iManage Announce Strategic Alliance; Jointly Developed Suite of Solutions to be Sold to the Content Management and Distribution Marketplace

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 2000--Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI), the global leader in mail and message management, and iManage, Inc. (Nasdaq: IMAN), a leading provider of content and collaboration software, platforms and applications, today announced the formation of a strategic alliance that will significantly improve the way customers share, distribute and manage information within an enterprise environment. This partnership is significant because it will enable businesses looking for desktop messaging solutions to integrate the web-based delivery products and services from Pitney Bowes with iManage's enterprise and e-business content management solutions.

The Pitney Bowes/iManage alliance will enable users to transmit and track documents that are shared and managed via the Internet safely and securely, thereby improving office efficiency and communications effectiveness. In their first joint offering, Pitney Bowes' iSend(TM) Online Document Delivery Service (the first of the company's Enterprise Desktop Messaging Suite) will be integrated into iManage's infoCommerce solution. As a result, businesses will be able to manage and deliver information such as contracts and other legal documents seamlessly, either electronically or via hard copy.

"This great partnership will enable our mutual customers to manage, retrieve, collaborate and send content through a secure and cost effective alternative to traditional e-mail or overnight delivery," states Judy Martin, Vice President Strategic Marketing, Pitney Bowes Mailing Systems. "Integrating our Web-enabled services into the iManage environment is a key part of our strategy to provide easy-to-use messaging solutions for enterprise knowledge workers to access from their desktops."

The iManage/iSend solution will initially be targeted at the legal, financial and professional services sectors and other large markets addressed by Pitney Bowes. These industries typically work with confidential materials that require a high degree of security and content collaboration. For example, during contract negotiations, multiple parties or team members within a company can easily circulate, edit and return a document using iManage. Then, once the content is finalized, the finished document can be sent over the Internet via the iSend(TM) System to the end recipient - quickly and with complete confidentiality. Companies will benefit from this methodology as it gives them more efficient business processes, improves both content management and document delivery, and it lowers capital investment.

"We are excited about this partnership with Pitney Bowes," said Shams Rashid, Vice President, Business Development, iManage Inc. "Their 80 years of leadership in message processing combined with our expertise in content and collaboration management provides users with a very strong end-to-end solution for secure e-Business collaboration and delivery."

The joint solutions will be offered through iManage's integrated desktop products as well as through a Pitney Bowes ASP offering. This combination allows users to seamlessly retrieve, manage, share and send content from an integrated desktop through to a hosted application. iManage solutions are Web-enabled for interactive collaboration, can be integrated with any e-mail system and can be tied to existing office applications. This makes it extremely flexible, and it empowers employees at their desktops while giving the enterprise a high level of control.

"With this alliance between iManage and Pitney Bowes, our mutual customers get the best of both worlds," states Bill Brewster, Marketing Director Enterprise Messaging Solutions, Pitney Bowes Mailing Systems. "By incorporating iSend into their infoCommerce suite, we've simplified, secured and cost reduced the delivery process for finished documents. Businesses are trying to do more with less resources and tighter deadlines, so this partnership puts a valuable solution right on the user's desktop. It's a winning proposition all around."

The iSend(TM) Online Document Delivery Service ensures the secure transmission of sensitive information over the Internet through the system's point-to-point security. It features robust encryption and authentication technology, reliable file delivery, and it enables the sender to track the delivery all the way to the recipient's desk. Offering a convenient, around the clock alternative to expensive overnight package delivery or local courier services, the iSend(TM) Service, available at www.isend.com, seamlessly interfaces with many desktop and enterprise applications.
