Pitney Bowes High-speed Galaxy-TM Mailing System Meets the Challenge of New York City During the Tax Time Crunch
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1999--
Pitney Bowes Alleviates Tax Time Stress By Providing Free Postage
To Last Minute Tax Filers
The Mailing Systems Division of Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI) brought their new Galaxy high-speed digital mailing systems to the streets of New York City to provide free postage to last minute tax filers, and to prove that the Galaxy(tm) System can stand up to the challenge of the tax time crunch.
The Galaxy(tm) System is the first high-speed, digital meter
approved by the Postal Service. Featuring encryption technology and
single circuit design, Galaxy is the most advanced and secure metering
system in the world. Equipped with Weigh-On-The-Way(tm) technology
(W-O-W(tm)), the Galaxy(tm) System virtually eliminates the need for
off-line sorting by weight. Mail pieces of varying weights (up to 13
oz.) and thickness (up to 1/2") can be intermixed and processed in one
continuous stream. This feature proved especially helpful in
processing the odd assortment of tax returns presented for mailing.
"To develop the Galaxy we merged the best of all our existing
technology with over 60 new patents to launch a new era of mailing
efficiency. By using leading-edge technology to deliver quiet
operation, maximum productivity and ease of use, Pitney Bowes has
developed mailing systems that are truly perfect for the mid-volume
market. The Galaxy(tm) Mailing System handled the tax time crunch with
ease. Just imagine what this system can do in an office environment
under normal circumstances," said Kevin Weiss, Vice President,
Marketing, Pitney Bowes Mailing Systems.
The Galaxy is aimed at mid-volume mailers, and these
establishments often do not have a dedicated mail center. However,
ultra-fast inkjet printers make the Galaxy whisper quiet, allowing it
to be operated in any area of the office. And because many office
environments do not have dedi cated mail-processing personnel, the
Galaxy(tm) System is also easy to run - even for the occasional user.
"By providing last minute tax filers with free postage, we not
only proved how well our Galaxy(tm) System handled mixed mail in
demanding conditions, but we were also able to give something back to
New York City customers for their support over the years," Weiss
added.
Pitney Bowes is a $4.2 billion premier provider of informed mail
