Pitney Bowes Introduces the First in a New Line of Desktop Shipping Solutions Designed to Improve Mail Center Efficiency

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 2000--

ShipRequest(TM) Software Promises to Bring More Savings,

Control and Accountability to Enterprise-wide Expedited Document

Delivery and Shipping Applications

The TranScape division of Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) today announced the launch of ShipRequest(TM), the first in a series of innovative, desktop software solutions that will significantly improve the way companies prepare and process expedited mail and parcel shipments. ShipRequest(TM) Software simplifies the exchange of critical data between the originator of an expedited document and the mail center personnel responsible for processing the transaction. Reduced costs, improved controls/accountability and enhanced productivity are realized at the enterprise-wide level. ShipRequest(TM) Software will be distributed by more than 2,000 Pitney Bowes sales representatives, nationwide, beginning April 1, 2000.

This new software application helps businesses control how express packages are prepared prior to arriving in a mail center. ShipRequest(TM) Software provides companies with a template for entering basic shipping information for overnight and express carriers such as Federal Express, United Parcel Service, Airborne, DHL and the United States Postal Service and thereby eliminates the manual entry of consignee data in the mail center. By automating this process, ShipRequest(TM) Software significantly reduces processing time while avoiding the potential for human error. In addition, companies can maximize the benefits associated with carrier service selections and better manage cost center allocations.

"When we ask our customers what they would most like to change in their mailing operations, one of their top answers is to gain control of the costs associated with processing express and overnight packages," stated Steve Smith, President of TranScape. "With ShipRequest, employees can complete the mailing information at their desktop and simplify processing in the mail center. This eliminates any error in transcribing hand writing or making assumptions on a preferred carrier. The result is up to a 50% reduction in processing time, 100% accuracy and better control of carrier expenses - a winning proposition for both internal and external clients."

This total solution can be seen at the National Postal Forum in Nashville TN, Opryland Convention Center, March 19 - 22, 2000, booth No. 439.

TranScape develops, distributes and supports a family of software products - including ValueShip(TM) Online Shipping System (Web-based), Ascent(TM) Transportation Management Software, Arrival (R) Routing and Tracking System (Windows NT and 98), Conquest(TM) Shipping System (client server) and Fulfillment(TM) Solutions (IBM AS/400) - that help customers manage the information surrounding the movement of documents, packages and freight shipments.
