Pitney Bowes Introduces Internet Solution for Address Updates; ForwardTrak Net gives mailers an easy way to locate customers who have moved
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 28, 2000--The Mailing Systems Division of Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI), the global leader in mailing and message management, today announced the launch of ForwardTrak(TM) Net, an option to the company's SmartMailer(TM) Addressing Software. This unique service enables mailers to identify changes of address on-line, thereby qualifying mailings for work sharing discounts. Approximately 44 million USPS customers file a permanent change-of-address each year, mail lists that are not up to date can result in significant returned or undeliverable mail - a big cost to any business mailer.
Pitney Bowes developed ForwardTrak(TM) Net as a solution to the USPS "Move-Update Requirement" that requires presorted or automation rate First-Class mail to be updated (exposed to address correction) within six months of the mail date. ForwardTrak(TM) Net sends a mailer's list over the Internet to a client server connected to the USPS FASTforward(SM) system. Then, working in conjunction with SmartMailer(TM) Addressing Software, the list is updated with the current move as well as deliverability information.
Benefits of ForwardTrak(TM) Net include:
-
Regulation Compliance - In order to receive USPS automation discounts, mailers must perform a Move Update at least six months before mailing.
-
Cost & Labor Savings - Correction of the database is done before the mailing, so there is no need to re-mail. Plus, the reduction of undeliverable mail not only saves the mailer money, but the postal service benefits as well. And, reduced labor requirements for the U.S.P.S. can contribute to rate stability.
-
Timely Delivery - A mail piece does not need to "chase" a moving target. By updating with the latest move information, mail is delivered to the right person, at the right address, quickly and with no detours.
-
Security of customer information - Before ForwardTrak(TM) Net, lists had to be sent out or e-mailed to a third party vendor for the Move Update procedure. ForwardTrak(TM) Net enables customers to upload their file directly, thereby offering a more secure solution.
"For years our SmartMailer(TM) software has helped business mailers save time and money through increased mail deliverability and optimized postage discounts. Now, the ForwardTrak(TM) Net option continues this tradition by enabling business mailers to meet the USPS Move Update requirement in a fraction of the time with no security concerns." stated Tim Bates, Vice President, Marketing, Pitney Bowes Mailing Systems. "Internet solutions working with Pitney Bowes software will become more and more common. This is just one of the new and exciting applications that today's businesses rely on the Internet for every day."
