Pitney Bowes Launches Internet-based Newsgroup to Help StreamWeaver Users Share Information

DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 1999--

New Service Will Feature Real-world Tips on How to Utilize the

Versatile Print Conditioning Tool to Boost Productivity,
Lower Costs and Improve Mail Piece Effectiveness

The Production Mail and Document Factory Solutions Division of
Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI) is launching an Internet-based newsgroup
service to give StreamWeaver(R) users immediate access to

comprehensive information about the versatile print conditioning tool, especially how it is being used by organizations internationally to boost productivity, lower costs and improve mail piece effectiveness.

"StreamWeaver is an immensely versatile tool and a key resource for any document production executive seeking to capitalize on the strategic value of regular monthly customer communications, such as statements, invoices and bills," says Kurt Konow, Senior Product Manager for StreamWeaver.

"But users are often unaware of the full scope of its capabilities and are looking for examples of best practices on how to utilize the print conditioning tool to produce documents more efficiently or at a lower cost, or to bolster the visual appeal and effectiveness of documents through the use of color and highly-targeted one-to-one marketing messages."

Instant Access to Comprehensive Data

"Our newsgroup service will give full access to the most complete and up-to-date collection of StreamWeaver-related information ever assembled by the user community," continues Konow. "Plus, the information will be constantly updated by users who are actually achieving measurable results, and will be instantly available via the Internet."

The new service bolsters the extensive support already provided to StreamWeaver customers by Pitney Bowes, which includes toll-free and online technical support, regular StreamWeaver Audio User Forums and the popular StreamWeaver Affiliate Users Forum, which is conducted annually at Xplor.

"Print and mail finishing professionals generally acquire StreamWeaver to achieve a single purpose," says Konow, "and in many instances have limited knowledge of its wider capabilities. But once they participate in our audio conferences or annual users forum and glimpse the possibilities, they quickly realize that they have `only scratched the surface' in terms of fully utilizing the versatile software tool."

"We expect that our innovative newsgroup service will enable hundreds of users to quickly expand the use of StreamWeaver's print conditioning capability to help achieve their mission-critical messaging goals."

StreamWeaver is widely used by Fortune 1000 firms to manipulate data and documents in the print stream--without the cost or delay involved in rewriting or reprogramming business applications--and to customize the output from third-party software products. StreamWeaver is frequently used to:

- Enable intelligent inserting by adding or changing finishing

control barcodes such as OMR or Code 3of9

- Maximize the effectiveness of software used for address cleansing

and presorting

- Consolidate into one envelope multiple documents intended for the

same recipient

- Facilitate the migration from one-up simplex to multiple-up

duplex printing

- Customize documents and mailings for highly personalized

communications and one-to-one target marketing efforts

The StreamWeaver Newsgroup will be launched at the Xplor Global Conference in Los Angeles, CA. StreamWeaver users attending Xplor can participate in a demonstration of the newsgroup service at the StreamWeaver Affiliate User Group meeting on November 4. The newsgroup will also be available that same day at the technical support section of the Pitney Bowes web site at www.pbss.com.
