Pitney Bowes Management Services Develops Web-Based Imaging Solution for Alamo Rent A Car

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1999--Pitney Bowes Management Services, Inc. (PBMS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) announced a partnership with Alamo(R) Rent A Car to scan and record information for Alamo's tour operator voucher system.

The new, comprehensive web-based solution will allow Alamo to track and post all vouchers on an Internet site for tour operators.

Alamo, one of the nation's leading car rental companies, outsourced the operation to PBMS, enlisting a leader in business outsourcing to help digitally process their travel voucher program. By working with PBMS, Alamo will reduce costs associated with lost or contested vouchers and add value for tour operators and their customer communications via a dedicated web site.

With the new Pitney Bowes imaging solution, these travel vouchers - approximately 9,000 daily, are scanned as they are received. The primary benefit to tour operators is instant access to their voucher documents anytime, day or night. Electronic images, combined with the Web site, offer accessibility to millions of documents with the stroke of a key. Alamo better serves its customers with increased customer responsiveness and improved productivity through efficient information management. Financially, PBMS predicts significant cost savings for Alamo annually.

"We are pleased with the solutions provided by Pitney Bowes Management Services," added Michael Going, Vice President, Worldwide Sales Alamo(R) Rent A Car. "PBMS' ability to use digital technology for our document-intensive business will be a great benefit to our customers. We expect to improve our capability to maintain a smooth, even workflow and serve even more customers with instant electronic access."

PBMS Document Solutions Group partnered with The IDP Companies, Inc., an electronic information management company, to propose a re-engineering of the total tour voucher system. The solution includes scanning all travel vouchers and posting the images to a secure web site for viewing. Alternatively, the tour operators can request an instant fax transmission or monthly CD-ROM of their voucher images. PBMS will manage the imaging as well as the web site loading and information distribution.

Karen M. Garrison, President, Pitney Bowes Management Services, is confident about this innovative partnership. "We are excited about this agreement with Alamo. There is an increased demand for new systems that will convert, process, store, access and manage digital-based information. Our imaging technology can help ensure the timely identification and production of historical records which then can be quickly accessed anytime, anywhere. Our goal was to integrate a `best-of-breed' technology to offer a solution that will improve productivity and customer satisfaction."

Through its imaging solution, PBMS offers benefits that can make a difference including:

- Efficiency improvements and cost reductions through smooth transfer and loading of files into current systems

- Higher customer satisfaction via immediate search and retrieval capabilities

- Improved accuracy through more effective use of historical records
