Pitney Bowes Named to National Urban League's Million Dollar Hall of Fame; The Company Also Supports the League Through a Loaned Executive

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2000--The National Urban League (NUL) recently inducted Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) into the NUL's Million Dollar Hall of Fame -- an elite group of organizations that have contributed $1 million or more toward NUL initiatives during the year. The announcement was made at the League's annual Equal Opportunity Day (EOD) Dinner, a tradition the League created to honor corporations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions towards creating equal opportunities in urban communities.

Pitney Bowes has a multi-faceted, mutually beneficial partnership with the National Urban League. The NUL's launch of an historic endowment fund was led by a Pitney Bowes executive on loan to the NUL. Rosalind Z. Wiggins, Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Secretary, Pitney Bowes Inc., was loaned to the League for one year to serve as Director of the Circle of Excellence. The Circle of Excellence was established as a vehicle for the African American community to invest in the NUL's future. Individuals are asked to make personal donations of at least $50,000 to the fund. The bulk of the money will go toward the League's education, technology and home-ownership programs. To date, nearly $1 million has been raised.

National Urban League President Hugh B. Price said, "Pitney Bowes has generously given the Urban League substantial financial donations and the commitment of two valuable resources: Rosalind Wiggins and Michael Critelli, who is personally involved as a trustee and as vice chairman of our Development Committee. The company's investment demonstrates their belief in our efforts to advance progress in areas critical to the African-American community."

Pitney Bowes' financial contribution goes toward various NUL initiatives including The Black Executive Exchange Program, scholarship programs, the EOD dinner, and the national conference, which includes sponsorship of the Young Professionals' Dialogue, a forum for discussing issues of importance to young African-American professionals.

Michael J. Critelli, Chairman and CEO, Pitney Bowes, said, "We are proud to be a partner of the National Urban League. We believe in the Urban League and the important work that it is doing."
