Pitney Bowes Names Gregory Buoncontri Vice President and Chief Information Officer

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 23, 2000--Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI) has announced the appointment of Gregory Buoncontri as vice president and chief information officer. Mr. Buoncontri will oversee Pitney Bowes' information technology operations, and report directly to Mark Breslawsky, president and chief operating officer. He succeeds Raymond Perry, who retired.

"We selected Greg because he is a proven expert in integrating an organization's information assets to meet the needs of the new economy customer and strengthen its operations."

Mr. Buoncontri will support the company's growth by streamlining IT operations and maximizing the effectiveness of enterprise-wide infrastructure and applications to enhance the quality of customer relationships and to support increased product and service offerings. This includes working with Murray L. Reichenstein, vice president e-business and chief development officer, to develop the infrastructure/IT resources necessary to accelerate current and emerging e-business initiatives, and working with Fred Purdue, vice president and general manager of business engineering, to execute the IT initiatives necessary for a successful ERP implementation. Mr. Buoncontri will also assume direct management responsibility for all IT personnel throughout the company.

Prior to joining Pitney Bowes, Mr. Buoncontri served as vice president, information technology and chief information officer at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. During his tenure, he was responsible for all information technology activities, including systems development, infrastructure operations, planning and co-sourcing for the $4 billion unit as well as IT integration initiatives.

Mr. Buoncontri has also held senior-level IT positions at Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, Asea Brown Boveri, Inc., Combustion Engineering and Peterson Consulting. He is a graduate of Fairfield University, and is relocating to Connecticut from New Jersey.
