Pitney Bowes Reorganizes Software and Services Capabilities to Better Serve High Volume and Mid-Market Mailers

    Business/High Tech Editors

DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 28, 1999--Pitney Bowes, Inc. (NYSE:PBI) today announced it is reorganizing its substantial software and professional services capabilities to better focus on the needs of both high-volume and mid-market mailers.

Pitney Bowes Software Systems currently in Lisle, IL will be integrated into the Production Mail & Document Factory Solutions and Mail Creation business units, headquartered in Danbury CT and Shelton CT respectively.

For high-volume mailers, who increasingly rely on advanced mail processing concepts like the Automated Document Factory (ADF), the change will mean a faster response in planning, designing and upgrading processing operations to world class status, according to Brian Baxendale, President of Production Mail and Document Factory Solutions.

"Pitney Bowes already offers the most comprehensive array of products and services tailored to the ADF concept," says Baxendale. "But the success of the ADF often hinges on the ability to integrate innovative technologies like print stream manipulation with proven expertise in mail finishing, software development, systems engineering and project management."

"This realignment brings key resources related to the ADF -- such as StreamWeaver print manipulation software, data quality products, and related professional services -- into our existing Document Factory Solutions group."

"The customer is the clear winner," Baxendale continues, "because we now have a single organization with a tighter, more cohesive focus and all the resources necessary to implement the range of technologies required for creating an integrated document output strategy."

The realignment of software and services also supports Pitney Bowes continuing emphasis on mid-market mailers by bringing the software tools and production technology utilized by high-volume mailers to mid-market businesses and the dispersed operations of larger companies.

"Mid-market mailers increasingly see the value of customer communications and want the same capabilities and benefits that high-volume mailers now enjoy," says Dennis Dracup, President of Pitney Bowes Software and Services Solutions, "which include the high speed, low cost processing of high quality, highly-targeted mailings."

"In these mid-market organizations, 'mail creation' is the critical but often overlooked function that can trigger significant improvements in the speed, quality and cost-effectiveness of the mailing operations," says Dracup.

"To better serve this need, we are realigning the software and professional services expertise with our existing hardware capabilities to offer mid-market mailers a more complete mail processing solution and help them achieve the fundamental goals of lower operating and postage costs, better quality mail, faster turnarounds, more effective one-to-one personalization and superior control and reporting capabilities."

The Pitney Bowes Lisle, IL office will remain as a key software development facility providing value-added mailing software products to the large and medium customer segments served by Pitney Bowes.
