    Business Editors

STAMFORD, Conn. and NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 1999--Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI), today announced that LinkShare Corporation, the worldwide leader in affiliate-marketing programs for companies doing business on the web, has been selected to develop and manage online marketing programs for Pitney Bowes' small business customers.

LinkShare facilitates e-commerce for leading online companies by providing them with the tools and technology to cross-refer their customers, strengthening their own customer relationships and generating revenue in the process. LinkShare's client roster includes marquee names in e-retailing such as Borders.com, Cyberian Outpost, dELiA's, Dell, Esprit, The Sharper Image, and Virtual Vineyards. The deal enables Pitney Bowes to tap into the tens of thousands of affiliate sites in the LinkShare Network(TM). LinkShare affiliates who sign up with Pitney Bowes will be able to establish links to the Pitney Bowes Web site (www.pitneybowes.com) and participate in several revenue-generating opportunities. The affiliate program is also expected to generate new business on LinkShare's own network of hubs, specifically those focused on the small business market.

"The use of an affiliate marketing program will make our suite of business solutions more readily accessible to current and future customers," said Bill Shannon, Director of Product Management, Pitney Bowes. "And since many of our products are Internet-enabled, teaming with LinkShare allows us to extend our online presence, which is where 40% of small business customers are already doing business."

"Through its partnership with LinkShare, Pitney Bowes will be able to extend its powerful, widely-recognized brand into the e-commerce space," said Stephen Messer, Chairman, CEO and co-founder of LinkShare. "When you combine their outstanding products with LinkShare's leading performance-based affiliate marketing program, you have an extraordinary alliance."

Pitney Bowes is the only company to offer a full suite of mail, marketing and financial services designed for the way small business really works. The suite of digital, PC and Internet-enabled products designed for small business will be marketed under the new PitneyWorks brand.
